If your budget has room and you want a smooth look with little to no imperfections then you definitely want to upgrade your sheathing or choose a different material altogether. You can use MDF, foam board, panel board…I mean there are tons of options. All it needs is to be firm and able to stand upright. Find the best materials that fit within your budget to execute your backdrop. The process will be the same. It is recommended to prime the wood before you paint. Wood is porous and will absorb some of your paint. This will greatly affect your first coat and possibly contribute to an un-smooth finish. I decided to skip this step and just do as many coats as necessary instead due to time and money. Altogether, with 2 arches and two paint colors, this project cost me $75 give or take. If you have close to none or the materials listed, and you choose to work with a better quality plywood, expect to spend $175. The jigsaw is not included. Girl, do it cheaper!
